As part of the Private Sector Development Programme (PSD-P) financed by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France in Lebanon; and in preparation for the launch of the programme's agribusiness component in Akkar on March 22nd 2018 in Halba (municipality center), Expertise France and Fair Trade Lebanon (local partner) visited on February 28th, 2018, the Andket Pro women cooperative located in the village of Andket (Akkar region - Northern Lebanon).
After an introductory word by M. Bassem Hanna from Expertise France presenting the agency and the project in Lebanon, Fair Trade Lebanon team presented the organization, its objectives, the selected vegetables, the organization's intervention / projects' activities in Akkar, the involvement of the cooperative in the project and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be signed by the beneficiaries.
From their end, the cooperative representatives expressed their gratitude to the European Union, Expertise France and Fair Trade Lebanon and highlighted the needs they wished to be covered through the project.
About the project:
The Private Sector Development Programme is a three year project (ending in September 2019) financed by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France in Lebanon. The programme is structured around three components: agribusiness in the Bekaa and Akkar, wood processing in Tripoli and access to finance. The programme aims at supporting MSMEs active in the wood processing and agribusiness sectors in order to increase their competitiveness and participation in the economy. In the Akkar region, the local partners are: Fair Trade Lebanon, René Moawad Foundation and MADA.
About the Cooperative:
Founded in 2006, Andket Pro is an all-women food-processing cooperative specialized in the processing of agricultural products. The cooperative has 15 women members from the village.
