Who Are WE?>>Story
An anecdote
In 2004, some time after the liberation of South Lebanon, part of the FTL team is heading in the caza of Bint Jbeil, in order to identify women's cooperatives with a know how for production of local Lebanese products. The head of a cooperative welcomes us and says dryly: "Are you one of these NGOs that come here to take pictures of poor people in order to beg on their backs? "
We were struck by these words, that won her the answer: "Madam, we shan't come back here, unless we get a purchase contract and financing for your cooperative."
Today, in March 2009, more than 15 references are originated from this caza, roughly a turnover of USD 40,000 for the only command in November 2008 - January 2009.
In April, the same cooperative will deliver us a new product, the syrup of bitter oranges for a new order scheduled for mid-May, thanks to our French partner, Artisanat Sel. Today, this cooperative of 15 women is working and covering its operating costs. Chose promise, chose due!! |
